I love travelling

One of the best things about it is the technology available today that allows me to not only document my travels but be able to share it with family, friends, and the rest of the world!
Even if you’re not attempting to make a business out of your content, I bet you want your experiences captured in high enough quality that when you look back at your photos and videos it nearly takes you right back, and matches the vividness of your memories… and with equipment that won’t be hard to lug around.
So here’s the camera and gear list of what I use and can personally recommend. Whether you’re living out of a backpack and the digital nomad life, going on a quick trip with family or friends, or capturing the good times at home.
My business and life include a lot of travel, everything has to serve a purpose or it just takes up valuable space. – I have 3 cameras in my arsenal. Multiple SD cards. Many hard drives, and a few handy gadgets I use often.

*updateI recently purchased the Sony A6500 bring a more cinematic feel to my videos. It’s much smaller than my original camera. The image quality and autofocus have already made a great difference to my videos.
I use this 10-18mm wide angle lens for vlogging. My belief is if you are vlogging, a wide-angle lens is a must!
Cameras
Canon T5i – My main (now old) camera, I use it for all of my blogs now. Originally it was too big and I didn’t like it so I purchased the Canon G7x to be more subtle while filming. Since I have stopped worrying what others think of me (we should all do this), I have been loving this camera.
Note: This is almost 3 years old now. I would suggest the Sony A6500 if you can swing it.
I generally use my wide angle lens for most vlogs because it gives a good view of where I’m at, and the footage seems smoother when walking with the camera and shooting.
If I want to take cool pics with the blurred background, then I use the art lens by Sigma. Example:
It’s been the easiest thing to make me look like a pro when actually I am a total amateur in the photography world! – Shout out to those who shoot using “auto mode” haha.
Canon G7X – They call cameras of this size “point and shoot” cameras. This is my point and shoot. I love it.
The downside of my Canon T5i is the fact that it does not shoot slo-mo in 1080p. It only shoots 60fps at 720. This is where I use the G7x. I generally have it shoot at 60fps (frames per second). I then play it back in “normal” speed when I edit so that it gives a slow-motion look. So when you see slo-mo in my videos it’s shot using the G7x.
GoPro Hero5 – I’m sure you have heard of GoPro before. I wouldn’t recommend this as a vlogging camera or the only camera to take on a trip. Instead I would recommend the above first.
I use GoPro for all action sports, water shots and time-lapses. That’s it.
The GoPro is fantastic for that. But if you want to zoom, you can’t. For making “vlog” style videos, the audio is not the best.
Drone
Drone DJI Mavic Pro – My best Vlogging decision was investing in a drone. It brings a whole new perspective to your videos. I originally bought the Mavic Pro because it was small enough to travel with. DJI has now released another drone called the Spark which is even smaller and cheaper than the Mavic.
If I had the choice of buying the Mavic or the Spark I would choose the Mavic because of the different settings that you can use and tracking and follow modes that it has etc.
But it’s a lot more expensive so if you are on a budget I would highly suggest picking up the Spark so you can bring that element of a drone into your footage.
Accessories
Gorillapod (very handy) – When I first bought my camera I used just a normal tripod but found I never used it due to the size. I now keep my GorillaPod attached to the camera 24/7 and use it almost every day.
If you’re going to be shooting while travelling or in a lot of different places, and you’re not trying to make cinematic films, then I would highly suggest getting a Gorillapod.
Note: Get the one from Joby, I have purchased cheaper ones but the connections have been too loose, it sucks.
Suction Cup Mount – I use my suction cup mount all the time! For example, when I’m in a car using the GoPro I will shoot a time-lapse of travels. Or if we’re in an airport I will stick it to a window and shoot a time-lapse of what’s going on outside. For things like that, I highly recommended it.
GoPro Clips and Accessories – You can buy packages of dark red accessories in bulk very cheap and I would highly suggest grabbing things like a chest mount, handlebar mount, selfie stick, stickies, and extra things that you can use for random situations like surfing
SD Cards – Do not buy cheap SD cards. I will admit I don’t know the details but I do know that you want at least a class 10 on the card. Whenever I purchase a camera I always purchase an additional SD card, and I always make sure that the card will be fast enough to process the images as captured and can transfer files onto my computer. I usually go for the best I can find.
External Hard Drives – So there are many external hard drives you can buy. I presently use Western Digital for no reason at all other than that its the best hard drive I have purchased so I have continued to purchase Western Digital ever since.
They come in passport sized hard drives which don’t require a power socket only a USB into your computer so they’re very useful for travel. I believe they make them up to 5 terabytes now!
Editing & Software
I am often asked where I get my music I can use for my videos and what program I use to edit my music.
Final Cut Pro – I use this for all of my editing. It’s worked great for me and was pretty quick to learn and get the hang of.
Epidemic Sound – I use this for almost exclusively for editing music into my vlogs. I like to give a shout out to specific DJ’s as well, but this has been my go-to for adding great music.
Overall, I’m not a film expert. I just pick up cameras and see what works. Still learning as much as I can and have a long way to go.
