Verdon Gorge, France – Relaxation + Adventure!
Verdon Gorge in South-Eastern France
Has an amazing combination of scenery, relaxation, and adventure activities.
It’s just about an hour west of Nice and was just what Hannah and I needed (especially after the 14-hour drive the day before!). The first thing we did was soak up the sun and just relax in this beautiful location. It felt sooooo good.
First Day in Verdon Gorge
We were at a nice hotel/resort style place and had planned on staying there for the day. Soaking up the sun. Relaxing. Possibly playing some tennis? But, since we got in late the night before we weren’t in the know of how their meal ticket system functioned… and of course reception was closed.
So, off we went on an adventure to find food. It’s a bit of a roulette when ordering food in a different language, but the place we found brought out the good stuff! Good food is always the best way to get the spirits back up 🙂
Don’t Forget to Exercise
When travelling or on holiday it’s pretty typical to consistently eat foods that are not so healthy in large quantities/when eaten on a regular basis. Sampling the local or traditional foods is a must do, but consistently eating out at restaurants can really start to take its toll. Can be difficult to balance the urge, and miss out on taking care of yourself.
Since we travel the world most of the year, it’s really important that we remember to weave in activities to keep fit. Exercise is tough, but being unfit is much tougher! So to catch up from our long travel days, we spent the afternoon playing tennis, a little bit of a run, and a refreshing dip in the pool.
A Tasty Beverage at Sunset
A beautiful day with a beautiful end, with a tasty beverage in hand and a gorgeous sunset to watch over Verdon Gorge. You could see so far through the clear air. What more could we ask for?
After a few hectic days, it was great to wind down.
Adventure in Verdon Gorge
First Thing, an Early Morning Walk
After relaxing, it was time for some adventure! First thing was a nice early morning walk around and to the gorge itself (hopefully). Not so adventurous? Everything is adventurous when your map, all instructions, and all signs are in a foreign language! A simple stroll turns into a scavenger hunt and crazy couple of hours…
But we made it to where we wanted (granted with a few detours), and had a fantastic time and beautiful views along the way. Don’t think we have a future as trail guides though…
We did stumble upon a great tiny Verdon Gorge town, with delicious grape vines hanging from doorways. There’s always something interesting!
Boat Tour, Verdon Gorge Style
So next thing, we went down to go on a boat tour. Turns out, they just give you a boat!
We thought there was no way… what if we get lost? Are they worried we won’t come back? But just some quick instructions on the controls, and off we went!
Scenic boat tour, cruising the lake by ourselves. GREAT!
As we were driving off, we still couldn’t believe we were allowed to just boat around the gorge unsupervised. And it just got more and more exciting and fun, to the point where we were almost giddy. Definitely, a must do, the beautiful scenery plus freedom and adventure of it was amazing!
We went up, down, all around… the only thing we didn’t get to see was the dam as it was blocked off. And of course, got some amazing drone footage.
It was fantastic, hands down recommended to do.
Best part, it wasn’t even on the listed agenda so originally we didn’t even know you could do it. It was 50 euro, what you can expect (or less) for a 3 person guided boat tour, but we got the thrill of doing it on our own. After driving ourselves around the gorge we were on such an excitement high. As an added bonus, it’s right next to a tent village looking area where we got to practice a little darts and make friends with a dog.
GREAT DAY
Next Up – Verdon Gorge BUNGEE JUMPING
The things I do for these vlogs…
Jumped off a 182m bridge and lived to tell the tale…What a rush!!!!
No big deal. Just on top of the highest bridge in Europe, in the middle of a gorge, and I’m about to jump off it… Definitely one for the books!
Strapped a camera to my wrist so you get the full experience and my reaction all the way down (and bouncing back up and down a few times). Give it a watch, it was a cool walk back up too.
Overall Verdon Gorge, a fantastic time and would do again!
