A Realistic View Into a Life of Travel
A Look Into the Lifestyle of Constant Travel
The consistent travel that comes from travel blogging includes many, many non-glamorous days.
That’s not to say they’re bad days…
It’s all part of the adventure of consistently being “on the road again” and living out of a suitcase. Which I’m sure, not just travel bloggers but business travelers of all types can relate to.
This post and video of our travels from Nice, France to Italy is a solid look into a hectic travel day and how in places like Europe where the countries are so accessible and close together, how they can blend together a bit.
Early morning coffee shops, train rides (always great when these come with beautiful scenery), long waits on transfers (sometimes 2+ in a day)… all part of the experience. That’s why when it doesn’t cost too much and we’ve got a lot of work to do on the ride, upgrading to VIP or first class on a train or other transportation can be well worth it.
Traveling as much as we do, you also run into language barriers and interesting cultural differences on a regular basis
For example, the Italians are very passionate about their espresso style coffee. They’ll be sure to tell you that an americano coffee (espresso diluted with additional hot water, basically coffee that is too large to fit in a shot glass) is NOT real coffee, it’s too weak! They’re not picky on if you’re American, you need to know this is not coffee 🙂
Every constant traveler also has their own go to moves for passing time
Especially on an outside waiting platform, you don’t typically want to open up any of your stuff or bring out your laptop. On this trip, one of the ways we made the time go by was playing a game of hacky sack! (doesn’t have to be something you do well for it to be a solid distraction).
And once you get where you’re going, it’s very possible you’ll have even more time to wait before you can fully get into your accommodations. But again for any seasoned traveler, that’s just part of the gig. So you find somewhere to relax, have a coffee (especially if you’ve just arrived in Italy as we have!), and do a bit more waiting.
Being Domestic While Traveling
When consistently traveling, it’s a lot of times the little things of normal life that you really have to try and work in. For example, going to a grocery store when possible instead of eating out.
If you’re in the same place for at least a few days, grocery shopping can not only save on money but time! It can take hours to find a place in a new city, and go out for all your meals. Plus, a lot of times it’s nice to have a normal meal in your own space from time to time, and likely eat lighter than if at a restaurant. Especially if, like us, you’re looking to spend a chunk of time staying in and getting work done between adventures.
But when you’re doing what you love, it’s all worth it.
Especially when you get to your new Italian abode, and your view includes a castle… right next door!
