Top Things To Do in Ireland (as suggested by you!)
Before we head to Ireland I decided to ask my followers where they think we should go. They gave me so many great suggestions, I thought I would list them in here for you!
Here’s a list of the best and most exciting things to do in Ireland as suggested by you:
Northern Ireland
To Do
- Belfast – tons of culture to learn and things to do including St George’s market on Sunday, Crumlin Road Jail, and the pubs around Cathedral Quarter (to name only a few)
- Portrush – a.k.a Portmagic or Cold Water Hawaii… the food n fun destination including the Harbour Bar
- Black Taxi Tour Belfast – community member claimed as a great way to see Belfast and understand the current climate. Most famous for its tours of Belfast’s amazingly detailed murals from both sides of the community from the not so past civil war.
- Old Bushmill’s Distillery – The oldest working distillery in Ireland (400 years!)
- Game of Thrones Tour – Through Belfast and the scenic outreaches beyond.
- The Wee Cottage Cafe – by Dunluce castle
- Titanic Exhibition Center in Belfast – Community member acclaimed as #1 visitor spots in the world right now! Like since you can see the dry docks and there’s even a new super plush hotel in the old white star line drawing rooms that just opened.
Scenic
- Giants Causeway – A World Heritage site and scenic coastline view of unique volcanic rock formations.
- Drive the Antrim Coast and Causeways – Can start in Belfast and includes Rathlin Island, the Glens of Antrim and the coastal area between Larne and Ballycastle
The Republic of Ireland
To Do:
- West Cork – for culture and foodie stuff (especially recommended events happening in Clonakilty and Skibbereen)
- Kinsale – Visit or stay in this originally a medieval fishing port, historic Kinsale (Head of the Sea) is one of the most picturesque, popular and historic towns on the south-west coast of Ireland.
- Inis Mor (Aran islands) – among a group of three islands running in a row across at the outer end of Galway Bay. Each island has a different atmosphere but claim the common trait of being havens of authentic Irish culture (as well as local pubs and nightly traditional music)
- Trad session at a pub – Listening to music at a pub (be advised, get there early if you learn of one planned). Trad = traditional
- Kings Head in Galway – 800 years of history and boasts a reputation for live music and good food over three floors
- Quays Pub in Galway – over 400 years old, located in the Latin Quarter, one of the city’s most famous and historic drinking establishments.
- Guinness Storehouse – One of Ireland’s most popular tourist attractions, in Dublin and the midst of St James Gate. The journey begins at the bottom of the world’s largest pint glass and there are seven floors filled with interactive experiences, concluding with the Gravity Bar on the rooftop.
- Blarney Castle – built 600 years ago, home of the Blarney stone.
- Bulman Pub in Kinsale – praised by one fellow reader as the “best seafood this Kiwi has ever had is from here”
- Kilkenny – a city, a county, and there’s a castle!
- Jameson Distillery – see how the famous whiskey is made and tour where it all started, and maybe even do a tasting.
- Dublin Pub Free Walking Tour – 3.5 hr tour of Dublin pub culture.
- Dawson’s Lounge Bar, Dublin – Dublin’s officially smallest pub.
- A Football match – depending on when if there’s one happening…
- Traditional Donegal Hand Weaving – Eddie Doherty, handwoven tweed. A real taste of Ireland!
Scenic:
- Drive the Ring of Kerry – scenic drive around the Iveragh Peninsula, and don’t forget Killarney National Park
- The Wild Atlantic Way (there’s an app for that)
- Cliffs of Moher – at the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way, a popular destination, so may need to book getting there a little early.
- Mizen Head (Ireland’s most Southwesterly Point)
- Sliabh Liag – Europe’s highest sea cliffs
- Stay in a pod! (Top of the Rock for example)
- Viking Splash Tours, Dublin – by and water in an amphibious vehicle! And one community member claims it as “hilarious”
- Glendalough – enchanting scenery located in the Wicklow Mountains National Park
- The Copper Coast – panoramic seascapes, cliffs, bays and coves between Dungarvan and the major seaside resort of Tramore
- Inchydone Island – community acclaimed for consistent surf, and good beach.
- Siglo – community acclaimed as the best surf destination
- Drombeg Stone Circle – locally known as the Druid’s Altar
